چکیده مقاله:
Aims: The use of medicinal plants has been common among people since ancient times, and in recent years special attention has been paid to their therapeutic use. Since oxidative stress is one of the probable causes of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the present study aims to compare the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of fruit and pit of Elaeagnud angosifolia on oxidative stress factors in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia referring to Shahid Muftah Clinic in Yasuj. Methods: In this study, 96 patients over 45 years of age with benign prostatic hyperplasia with an International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) below 20 were randomly assigned to two groups receiving a placebo (600 mg of white wheat flour for one month) and extract (600 mg of hydroalcoholic extract of Elaeagnud angosifolia for one month). Blood samples were taken from each patient before and after the study to check the level of oxidative stress markers including total thiol (TSH), total plasma antioxidant capacity (FRAP), malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) metabolites. Results: The results of the present study showed that the hydroalcoholic extract of fruit and pit of Elaeagnud angosifolia reduced the level of MDA in the group receiving the extract (480.7±65 vs. 457.8±51) compared to the placebo group (454.8±50 vs. 447.3±36), however, this decrease was not significant. Also, the amount of NO metabolites in the group receiving the extract (6.7±7.8 vs. 15.7±9) compared to the placebo group (5.5±3 vs. 16.6±9) showed a lower increase, and this increase was not significant either. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference in the amount of FRAP and TSH between the drug and placebo groups (P-value<0.05). Conclusions: It seems that the consumption of hydroalcoholic extract of fruit and pit of Elaeagnud angosifolia may be able to reduce the amount of oxidative stress in benign prostatic hyperplasia patients by reducing lipid peroxidation and inhibiting NO production.

Background and Aims: Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide in men. Matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) has a role in the invasion and destruction of the basement membrane and the extra-cellular matrix and facilitating the process of tumor cell invasion. The present study was conducted to compare the expression of MMP2 gene in prostate cancer (PCa) and benign prostatic ...
